Day 6 – Penguin Book-a-Day Challenge (Everyone should read)

So sorry – had to cheat a bit. Just couldn’t make up my mind which book „everyone should read“ so I picked the wonderful „Novel Cure“ by Ella Berthoud and Susan Elderkin which offers a wide selection of phantastic books for about any situation or predicament you might find yourself in. From A like abandonment to Z like zestlesness there is a book-idea on how to cure it in it for you.

I had the pleasure of having a Bibliotherapy session during the two Reading Weekends in England a couple of years ago with Ella and it was absolutely inspiring. Ella is the bibliotherapist of the School of Life in London and I can highly recommend booking a session with her or if you can’t do that buy the book which is not only filled with lots of great book recommendations but it is also very beautiful.

It has been translated into German and is called „Die Romantherapie“ published in Insel Verlag- it would even be worth getting both editions as the book recommendations are varying.

Day 5 Penguin Book-a-Day Challenge (Quintessentially British)

PD James

Can it get any more British than with Dame PD James – who sadly passed away this year at the age of 94.

I can’t think of anything nicer than spending a rainy weekend on the sofa with a cozy mystery of PD James or Agatha Christie, drinking some tea and hope somebody might magically appear with some fresh baked scones or cookies.

I especially like this wonderful Folio edition of her first novel „Cover her face“ – so pretty.

Day 4 Penguin Book-a-Day Challenge (For chilly nights)

Henry James‘ „Turn of the screw“ is the best read to send chills down your spine and best read on a chilly night wrapped like a burrito in your favourite blanket.
Any good book doctor will prescribe a hot toddy to go with the book. Here you can find the recipe for the perfect one.

Sláinte!

Day 3 Penguin Book-a-Day Challenge (On my Christmas list)

which book do you think I’ve put on my wishlist for Santa Claus ? Shouldn’t be too difficult to guess I think. I really hope I’ve been a good enough Bingereader this year as I really really hope to get the book. We will be reading it in January for the bookclub.

So – any guesses ?

Oh and while you’re at it dear Santa – could you also please take care of all the cool Indie Book shops and protect them from all evil – thanks ! We need our local bookshops – it keeps the neighbourhood from dumbing down 😉

Day 2 – Penguin Book-a-Day Challenge (Last Read)

Featured today my „Last Read“ – even though that is a bit difficult this time, as the last book was sort of a compilation of books as I was reading Susan Sontag’s Biography, her Journals, her Interview with the Rolling Stone in parallel and also went to a symposium about the timeliness of Susan Sontag.

My frentic Sontag Reading Happening will be (for now) concluded with a play we will be seing tonight in Münchner Kammerspiele based on her last book „Regarding the pain of others“.
